Where to Stay in Amsterdam for Every Budget

Amsterdam is one of those cities that changes depending on how you know it. We visited many times before moving to the Netherlands, and now that we live here, we still book weekend stays even though Rotterdam is less than an hour away. That alone says a lot.

The city is compact and easy to get around, but the neighborhood you choose still matters. Some areas feel busy and tourist heavy. Others feel quieter, greener and more local. This list reflects how we actually stay in Amsterdam now, not just how we visited years ago.

These are hotels we’ve stayed in ourselves, along with a few others we’d confidently recommend based on location, comfort and how well they work for real trips.

Quick Amsterdam location notes:
Canal Ring (Grachtengordel): Central, walkable, classic Amsterdam. Beautiful but busy.
Jordaan: Charming streets, shops, restaurants and quieter nights.
Museum Quarter: Polished, calm and close to parks and major museums.
Westerpark: Creative, green, local feeling with easy tram access.
Oost: Residential, relaxed and well connected without feeling touristy.
