Zurich

Our first trip to Zurich we stayed in the center at Hotel Swiss Nights.  The room was nice and clean with a traditional breakfast buffet and gym downstairs.  The hotel was in a great quiet location where there was plenty of places to walk Cash.  There were even two small parks right down the street, one had a kids play area.  But, we were still close enough to walk to everything in Zurich.

We hadn’t done a ton of research on Zurich so we decided to just explore.  We wandered around our first day and decided to visit Fraumunster church.  We had no idea that the most amazing stained glass windows inside were by Marc Chagall.  The windows are truly amazing.  With entrance to the church, you received headphones that gave you a tour and history.  We all loved sitting in front of Chagall’s windows and hearing the story to explain their meanings.

We also booked a bike tour of the city on Airbnb experiences.  Our guide was really informative about cool facts about Zurich and the area.  He took us down Bahnhofstrasse which is one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world.   We also went to the flea market which takes place on Saturdays.  Of course we couldn’t be in Switzerland without stopping at Teuscher for a taste!  The store décor is as stunning as the chocolate.

Dylan’s favorite part of our time in there was in a city about 40 minutes outside Zurich called Winterthur.  We hit two highlights in Winterthur.

Technorama – This is a hands on science center for all ages.  There are three floors full of discovery and interaction.  Don’t forget to go outside though, there is more fun out there including a swing, wind machine and jumping area.

Skills Park – This is an adrenal lovers paradise.  There is a ninja course, trampoline area, skateboard and scooter course and bike ramps.  You pay one entrance fee and  it includes all activities.  They rent bikes, scooters and helmets at an additional cost in case you need them.   There is also a small snack area to fortify between activities.

Again, the food in Zurich was VERY expensive.  There is a lot of international choices for food but nothing is reasonably priced.  We had a nice and very expensive dinner at Brasserie Schiller near the Opera but otherwise ate Bratwurst from a street vendor and pretzels from the bakery.

We really enjoyed our time in Zurich.  If it wasn’t so expensive it would definitely be on the list of possible places to live.
