We have been to Prague twice and plan to return again and again. It is a really cool city. The first time we visited was for New Years. We stayed at the Hilton and they had an amazing New Year’s Eve party. I mean spectacular. It wasn’t cheap but the production value was fantastic. Definitely one of our favorite New Year’s parties.
We were truly tourists on that trip. We visited the Christmas markets, we ate chimney cake, we ice skated. It was a great trip that I highly recommend. But, I also loved our second trip for totally different reasons.
The second visit was in mid-February and we stayed at an Airbnb in Praha 3. (The whole city is divided into regions and assigned numbers, 1 is in the center.) We were next to 4 parks that were very dog friendly (mostly leash free) and a very family friendly neighborhood. We easily took the subway into the city with just 3 stops. It is very user friendly and not hectic like some subways. Being in this area really gave us a chance to feel a bit of what life in Prague is like.
The food in Prague is great and inexpensive. You can get pretty much anything your heart could desire and for a good price. One of the fun touristy things we loved was we went to a 5 course Medieval dinner. There were fire eaters, dancers and all kinds of fun entertainment. Cheesy? Yes, but really a lot of fun.
The other touristy thing that we loved was the Prague Old Car tour. The guides are great and they drive you around in a cool old car and tell you about the site. It is a great way to see a lot in an hour and get your barrings.
For those with kids, or adults that like kid stuff, The Playground is for you. It used to be Hamley’s Toy Store. The name has changed but the fun hasn’t. They have everything but it is so much more than a toy store. It has a butterfly garden, VR, a mirror maze, an arcade and a slide from the third floor to the ground. It is a lot of fun for all. Great place to spend time especially if the weather isn’t great.
The great thing about Prague is you can just walk around. They have great shopping, great squares (Charles Square), there is a cool astrological clock, there is a castle, a “dancing house” and crossing Charles Bridge is an event. Stop and look at the art or listen the men play music. It is free and fun.
No matter if you choose the hotel or Airbnb route, you are sure to enjoy your time in Praha.
