Chamonix, France | Rhône-Alps Part 1
We recorded this episode as the first part of a Rhône-Alps series, starting in Chamonix. It’s one of those places that looks unreal in photos and somehow still catches you off guard in person. The town is compact, very alpine and completely surrounded by mountains, which is something you notice constantly just walking around.
This episode focuses entirely on Chamonix. What the town feels like, what we did while we were there and why it worked best as a slower stop rather than a place to try to do too much.
Episode Summary
In this episode, we talk about spending time in Chamonix and what makes it feel so different from other mountain towns. We describe the town itself, the architecture and the feeling of being fully surrounded by mountains in every direction.
We talk about visiting Mer du Glace and the ice cave, including the train ride up the mountain and the long walk down into the glacier. Seeing how much the glacier has retreated was one of the most striking parts of the visit and made the experience feel more real than we expected.
We also talk about one hike that stood out, where we ate in town, where we stayed and why location mattered more here than trying to plan too much. This episode is about letting Chamonix set the pace and choosing a few things to do well instead of trying to cover everything.
This is Part 1 of our Rhône-Alps trip. Part 2 continues with Annecy, Aix-les-Bains and Chambéry.
